Heavy rain likely in six dists: IMD
Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely in Deogarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Rayagada districts during next 24 hours while light to moderate rainfall will continue across the state for next seven days, the IMD said. Intermittent rain in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack led to waterlogging on roads and low-lying areas.
Due to steep pressure gradient, strong surface wind reaching 40-50 km per hour is likely along and off north Odisha coast during next 24 hours.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off north coast during this period, the IMD bulletin said.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain and thundershowers at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts in the next two days.
With intermittent rain continuing in most parts of the state in the last few days, Odisha has received a cumulative rainfall of 164 mm between June 1 and July 1 this year against the normal value of 216.5 mm. During this period, Malkangiri district received 42% excess rain, 13 districts have received normal rain while one district Mayurbhanj has large deficit and rest 15 were in the deficient category.
In the last 24 hours, Kotpad in Koraput received maximum 153 mm rainfall followed by 80 mm at Kantapada in Cuttack, 75.6 mm at Tensa in Sundargarh and 60 mm in Nabarangpur.
Bhubaneswar witnessed cloudy sky with intermittent rain throughout the day on Monday and recorded 11.2 mm rainfall. Several low-lying areas and roads witnessed waterlogging and traffic congestion due to the rain. The city will have partly cloudy sky with sporadic rainfall and high humidity levels on Tuesday, the IMD said.

Delhi faced warm weather with temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius and a heat index of 52 degrees Celsius. The IMD forecasted rain for the next six days, with an expected increase in rain intensity. The monsoon arrival date in the capital and its coverage across northwest India were highlighted.
