Pb minister lying, Centre sending funds for SC students: BJP leader
Chandigarh: Former Union minister Vijay Sampla condemned Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday, saying he presented misleading facts about the post-matric scholarship scheme in the state.
Sampla, ex-chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), clarified that BJP-led central govt had released hundreds of crores to Punjab for the scheme, but the state govt failed to use these funds.
Addressing media, Sampla said Cheema claimed Centre had not released its 60% share of funds for Punjab students enrolled in post-matric scholarship scheme since 2017, but this statement was misleading. The BJP leader said as per Union ministry of social justice and empowerment’s data, Centre released Rs 229 crore for SC students to Punjab in 2020-21 financial year. This, he said, was in addition to Rs 140 crore lying unutilised by the Punjab govt. TNN
