CHENNAI: Post-poll disciplinary action in
Tamil Nadu unit of BJP continued as state president K Annamalai removed three district level functionaries in Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai districts on Sunday.
A statement from Annamalai said Mayiladuthurai district president K Agoram, Tiruvarur district president S Baskar and Tiruvarur district general secretary C Senthilarasan were removed from their party posts.
All the three were facing multiple allegations and police cases. Agoram was accused of attempting to extort money from pontiff of Dharmapuram Adheenam, a Saivaite mutt in Mayiladuthurai. Agoram allegedly blackmailed the pontiff that ‘obscene video and audio clips’ connected with the mutt head would be released if he was not paid the demanded money. A special police team arrested Agoram from Mumbai in March this year following a complaint from the pontiff.
Tiruvarur district president Baskar and secretary Senthilarasan were involved in the case of assault on a BJP functionary named Madhusoodhanan. Baskar was in 2022 arrested by the police in a case of impersonation.
Last week, BJP former OBC wing general secretary Tiruchi Suriyaa Siva was removed from the party post while BJP intellectual wing functionary Kalayan Raman was sacked from the party’s basic membership after the state BJP’s core committee meeting held on June 19. It was decided in the core committee meeting that those who speak against the party leadership and leaders would be removed from the party.
