City to now host second leg of Tamil Nadu Premier League
Coimbatore: The eighth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024- Twenty20 cricket tournament will be played from July 5 to August 4 across five cities in the state. The city will be hosting the second leg of the tournament from July 13 to 18.
This season will witness eight teams battling it out across five venues including Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindigul and Chennai.
This edition’s first leg will be held in Salem from July 5 to 11, followed by the second leg in Coimbatore from July 13 to 18, the third leg in Tirunelveli from July 20 to 24, and the final leg in Dindigul from July 26 to 28.
Sanjay Kumbhat, TNPL chairman, said on Friday that with the playoffs- Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, slated for July 30 and 31 respectively will be held in Dindigul. While the Qualifier 2 on August 2 and the Final on August 4 will be held in Chennai, marking a comeback to the venue after a two-year hiatus.
Most matches are scheduled to commence at 7.15pm under floodlights, while afternoon fixtures will begin at 3.15pm. “This season will feature seven double-headers and all playoff matches will have a reserve day in the event of rain disrupting play,” he added.
The 8 teams participating in the competition are Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Nellai Royal Kings, Lyca Kovai Kings, Siechem Madurai Panthers, SKM Salem Spartans, and Trichy Grand Cholas.
