New criminal laws: Coimbatore lawyers continue court boycott and protest
COIMBATORE: Members of the Coimbatore Bar Association (CBA) on Tuesday boycotted court proceedings for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to condemn the new criminal laws implemented by the Union government.
They held a protest in front of the combined court complex main gate on the Arts College Road demanding that the Union government withdraw the three criminal laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The CBA has decided to boycott court proceedings till July 8.
A section of lawyers carried out a hunger strike at the combined court complex on Monday. They staged a protest in front of the main gate of the court complex on Tuesday.
They held placards and raised slogans against the new criminal laws. They said the new laws would affect the common people as they gave more power to police.
The lawyers alleged that the new criminal laws snatched the power of the state govt. They were enacted unconstitutionally and so they should not be implemented, according to the protesting lawyers.
