There were around 411 vacant EWS/DG seats, for which we received around 44,000 applications. Now those seats have been filled. For CWSN, around 2,600 seats were vacant, but we received just 44 applications. It is difficult to get applications in this category,” said a senior DoE official.

The seat details will be released in four-five days for the 2022-23 academic session, added the official. Around 2,000 private schools are part of the process.
The admission circular clarifies that only one application is to be filed for an candidate. “Multiple applications filed by any individual applicant shall lead to the cancellation of candidature, even after succeeding in the draw of lots,” it adds. Since 2016, DoE has been conducting online applications and centralised draw of lots. Only EWS candidates need to submit income certificates. Like earlier, the EWS/DG category has a relaxation in the upper age limit unlike the general category.
Activists working to help parents in filling forms have objected to the short period for submitting the form. “We also want that all vacant seats of the last year be clubbed with this exercise,” said Ekramul Haque of Mission Taleem.
