Repeated landslides hit new Bicholim bypass road
Substandard quality of hill-cutting work by PWD caused another landslide on the newly inaugurated Vhalshim-Vathadev bypass said locals on Friday. Although there were no casualties as it occurred during the early hours, the threat remains.
Heavy rain led to a landslide on this bypass on Thursday. However, within 24 hours, a second landslide was reported near a flyover just 50m from the earlier one.
The debris has been cleared now.
One road lane from Vhalshim to Vathadev has been fully closed for traffic.
Ranjana Vaigankar, a councillor, has called upon PWD to keep the entire road closed for traffic.
Gopal Chodankar, a local, said that immediate repairs are required in the damaged area and other landslide-prone areas. Anil Usapkar, another local, said the bypass road is bumpy and there is a need for a final concrete coating
