226 drivers feted for accident-free service

Rural development and panchayat raj minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday presented silver medals to 226 drivers of North-West Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) for their accident-free service between 2004 and 2008.

HUBLI: Rural development and panchayat raj minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday presented silver medals to 226 drivers of North-West Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) for their accident-free service between 2004 and 2008.
Speaking on the occasion, Shettar said the development of any place depends on the transport facilities. "NWRKTC is facing financial crunch and incurring huge losses in the past few years.
This is affecting the people of this region besides having a negative impact on the growth of this region," he said.
Shettar said all all elected representatives are duty-bound to make sincere efforts to bail this corporation out of the financial problems and ensure the growth of the region. He said he has been holding talks with the transport minister and the chief minister to get special grant, tax concession and purchase new buses to revive the NWKRTC. "The government will soon give much-needed support to the NWKRTC," he said. He asked the employees to work efficiently.
MLC Mohan Limbikai urged the bus crew __ drivers and conductors __ to be polite with the passengers while MLA Veerabhadrappa Halaharvi highlighted the need for bringing in changes in the functioning of NWKRTC to make it viable and profitable. NWKRTC managing director Hemaraju, MLA Seema Masuti, NWKRTC president Mallikarjun Sahukar and others were present.
About 226 drivers, including M R Nadaf, G B Hiremath, M H Kurahatti, Basavaraj Yadavatti and Ramesh Vaidya, were felicitated on the occasion.
