HYDERABAD: Cyclone Mandous caught the city by surprise with a heavy spell of rain on Tuesday evening. The rain lasted for an hour and covered almost all parts of the city.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Hayathnagar (10.5mm), followed by Amberpet (8mm) and Saroornagar (7.5mm). A total of 36 locations in the city received heavy showers in a short spell, sending evening traffic haywire.Long traffic jams were seen all across the city including at Saidabad, Koti, Lakadikapurl, Nagarjuna circle, Secunderabad, Madhapur and Kothaguda.
In the state, 22.5mm rainfall was observed in Chandur, Nalgonda, followed by Pellumla with 18.5mm rainfall in the same district. Parts of Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Yadadri, Naraynpet and Khammam also received rain briefly.
This is the last spell of rains likely in the coming week, as per predictions by India Meteorological Department. The state will now see full withdrawal of rain clouds and only dry weather with cold winds from north are likely to prevail. The temperatures will also be above 15C in the coming week, said IMD.
