HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Police investigating the dating fraud pulled off by a gang from Delhi and a pub organiser from the city have found that the gang hired women from UP and Bihar only for a period of one month. Six women have been identified so far.
The women who were hired to date men at Mosh Pub in Madhapur were accommodated in hostels and other such places.
The victims were were forced to pay for expensive liquor and food consumed on dates. After completing their ‘mission’, the women returned to their home towns. Police are now verifying the role of more women in the fraud and are in process of tracing them.
Investigating officials said that the accused persons hired women mostly in their mid-20s. It is being probed if the women were trafficked to Hyderabad under the promise of other jobs or they were aware of the conspiracy.
“There is a possibility that these women were hired for some other purpose and after coming here were forced to date, like in trafficking cases. But they could have also volunteered to be a part of the racket and came to the city on their own accord,” said an official. Cops are in the process of seeking police custody of seven accused. Police had on Wednesday arrested seven persons and remanded them in judicial custody.
Investigation is also underway to check if there are any victims of the fraud in other cities. “We might get some more details and evidence on this gang’s activities. Accordingly, we will alert police in other states and cities for further action,” said an investigating official.
Cops said the women were in the city only for a month and left the place immediately after they completed the tasks given to them. They were paid accordingly. Their local expenses and other needs were all taken care of by the accused.
