INDORE: A 58-year-old trader was stabbed to death when he returned from his morning walk in Jivajiganj area of Ujjain on Saturday morning. The attacker was hiding in his house.
The victim, Mishrilal Rathore, owned an electronics shop in Juna Somavariya area and lived with his family on the upper two stories of the same building.
CCTV cameras captured the stabbing, and Rathore's brief, desperate struggle with the assailant.
Police aren't sure of the motive for the murder or the identity of the killer, but suspect a property dispute was the trigger.
In CCTV footage, the killer is seen behaving in an erratic manner, banging his head against the wall before attacking the businessman. The footage shows him lunge at Rathore with a knife as soon as he opens the channel gate of his house. He stabs Rathore in the torso and flees, leaving behind his footwear and the knife. Although mortally injured Rathore grapples with him and tries to stop him, but collapses.
His screams brought neighbours and family members running. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
SP Pradeep Sharma said the killer knew the trader and his timings. Family members said he did not have any fights or altercations with anyone.
SP Sharma said that during interviews with family members, police found there were property-related issues going on in the house.
‘Some suspects being quizzed’
Investigators suspect an insider gave the killer a key to the channel gate. CCTV caught the man taking out the key from his pocket to open the gate around 7am. Rathore is survived by two children. Police said they are interrogating some suspects.
