Jaipur traffic police to set up ‘accident research cell’
Jaipur: Jaipur police’s traffic department is setting up an ‘Accident Research Cell’ (ARC) to determine the reasons behind road accidents. While four Traffic Accidents Investigating Units (TAIU), commonly known as Traffic Thanas, will be responsible for filing cases against offenders in road accident cases, ARC will focus on reporting the causes of such accidents and proposing solutions.

Additional commissioner of Jaipur Police (traffic and administration) Priti Chandra told TOI that the department will issue a notification for the formation of this special cell within the next couple of days.
“The main purpose of forming this team is to reduce the number of road accidents in the city. Based on the reports from this team, we are going to adopt corrective measures to ensure that such accidents don’t repeat in the future,” Chandra said on Monday.
Officials said that based on the ARC’s reports, the traffic department will work closely with civic bodies and other relevant departments to implement corrective steps. “For example, if the investigation by the ARC reveals that an accident was due to poor condition of road, we will forward the report to the civic body and ask them to address the issue at the earliest. If the accident occurred due to overspeeding, we may restrict the speed of vehicles on that stretch or ask civic bodies to construct speed breakers,” an official said.
“The cell will be operational within a month,” a senior official said.
