JAISALMER: A man from Aalamsaria village in Barmer district’s Dhorimanna police station area brutally murdered his wife with an axe while she was asleep on Tuesday night. The reason behind the heinous crime was the wife’s excessive use of her mobile phone, which led to constant fights between the couple, said police.
When the victim’s 27-year-old daughter heard her mother’s screams and tried to intervene, the father attacked her as well with the axe, leaving her injured.
Police have filed a case based on the daughter’s statement and have arrested the man. The woman’s body was handed over to family members after postmortem on Wednesday.
Dhorimanna SHO Manak Ram Vishnoi said the incident occurred around 2:30am when Chunnilal, the accused, attacked his wife, Jeeyo Devi (40), on her neck with an axe. “On hearing the screams of her mother, Sumitra (17) woke up and tried to rescue her but Sumitra was also injured in the attack,” said Vishnoi.
Both mother and daughter were rushed to a hospital, where Jeeyo Devi was declared dead. Sumitra was discharged after first-aid. Barmer additional SP Jasaram Bose said, “The husband told police upon interrogation that his wife used to talk with ‘spirits’ on her mobile phone. Due to this, both used to have fights.”
