JAMSHEDPUR: The Jamshedpur Co-operative College building, which served as the strong room for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency, is awaiting the departure of BSF personnel deployed for poll duty. This will allow the building to be cleaned before classes resume on June 20. Principal Amar Singh has requested the district administration and JNAC to ensure the campus is cleaned.
From mid-April, the administration took over various parts of the college building, including the administrative building, PG block, and science block, to facilitate the counting process.
The campus was completely sealed from May 25 until June 4, when the counting was conducted. College staff said there is a significant amount of work left to be done before the institute could be reopened after the summer vacation.
BSF personnel are still occupying the college's PG block, and the college canteen has been converted into their mess for meals. According to the personnel, they have not yet received a transit order to move to their next destination. The windows of strong rooms remain sealed and need to be opened. The college has received a substantial electricity bill exceeding Rs 3 lakh, which the principal has brought to the attention of East Singhbhum DC Ananya Mittal.
"We had shifted our office work into the library when the rest of the buildings were taken over. However, the campus was totally sealed post-election. I have written letters to authorities concerned to hand over the building back to the college administration. The college will open in next 10 days. We are yet to analyze the damage on the building," said Singh.
