KOCHI: Ernakulam rural police on Thursday arrested a youth for allegedly forcing his way into a house, attacking a woman and stealing cash.
Abin Tomy (24) of Nellikuzhi was arrested by Perumbavoor police. The case pertains to the crime which occurred around 3.30am on Tuesday at a house at Onnam Mile.
According to police, the accused entered the house by opening the kitchen door latch.
A woman in the house who was sleeping woke up hearing the accused and he gagged her, police said. He then stole Rs 3,200 from the room before fleeing.
Police apprehended the suspect from a location at Nellikuzhi where migrant workers reside.
He has previous assault cases at Kuruppampady and Kothamangalam police stations, and theft cases at Perumbavoor and Kodanad police stations. Last year, he was involved in a case where a group threatened a person with a knife and stole Rs 1 lakh and an Innova car within Perumbavoor police station limits.
The probe team included ASP Mohit Rawat, inspector M K Rajesh, sub-inspector Reji Mon, ASI P A Abdul Manaf, and senior CPOs T A Afsal, A T Jins, and K A Abhilash.
