Water flowing over seven barrages in Kolhapur district
Kolhapur: As the river levels surged on Monday following heavy showers over the past two-three days, water started flowing above seven barrages in the district.
On Monday too, moderate and intermittent rainfall continued in Kolhapur city and parts of district.
According to Kolhapur district disaster management officials, the Radhanagari dam has been releasing water at a rate 1,100 cusecs.
The dam has a water storage of 2.54 TMC.
Among other dams in the district, Warna had a stock of 11.85 TMC on Monday, followed by Dudhganga (4.53 TMC), Patgaon (1.61 TMC), Ghatprabha (1.43 TMC), Tulsi (1.33 TMC), Kadvi (1.28 TMC), Kumbhi (0.92 TMC), Kasari (0.92 TMC), Chittri (0.56 TMC), Jangamhatti (0.49 TMC). The water in Panchaganga river on Monday surged to 18.01 feet at the Rajaram barrage in Kasba Bawda area of the city. Till Monday evening, six barrages of Rajaram, Shingnapur, Surve, Rui, Ichalkaranji and Terwadh over Panchaganga river and Yavluj barrage over Kasari river were submerged in the district.

The hilly regions in Kolhapur district known for receiving heavy rainfall showed a deficit of almost 50% in average June rainfall this monsoon. Radhanagari tehsil received barely 37.5% of its average June rainfall this year, while Chandgad tehsil received only 45%. Ajara tehsil got 55.5% of its average June rainfall this year, while Panhala got 50.8%, followed by Gaganbawda (52%). Kolhapur district usually receives 362.9mm of rainfall in June, however, this time it received just 199.6mm rain, which is 55% of its normal rainfall.
