KOLKATA: Bengal and Bangladesh police have decided to further probe electronic evidence to determine the precise motive behind Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar’s killing.
The Dhaka Police has sent mobiles of accused Amanullah alias Shimul Bhuiyan, his nephew Tanvir Bhuiyan, Celesty Rahman, and a fourth suspect for forensic analysis, following a court order.
In the application to court, police said Shimul, Tanvir and Celesty exchanged messages on WhatsApp, several of them after Azim’s killing. It’s imperative to check if any information on Azim’s abduction and murder was expunged, police said. The developments follow the detention of two political functionaries from Jhenaidah, which used to be represented by Azim.
Dhaka Police told court one of the functionaries admitted he spoke to accused Shimul on WhatsApp around 10:30 pm on May 16. The next day, police said, he met Shimul beside Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur, discussed Azim’s abduction-murder and exchanged money. CID has recovered the conversation between Celesty and Azim and deduced that accused Siam used Azim’s WhatsApp after his murder. CID will ask Dhaka Police to send notice to a woman, who accompanied Azim on his earlier visit to Kolkata. This woman, claimed an officer, messaged Celesty.
