JEE (Advanced) results: I stopped using mobile phone, says IIT-Kanpur zone topper

LUCKNOW: With All India Rank 75, Manya Jain, 18, emerged as the IIT-Kanpur zone topper in JEE (Advanced), results of which were declared on Sunday. The female topper from the IIT-K zone is Shreshtha Gupta with common rank list (CRL) 191. Eyeing computer sciences at IIT Delhi, Manya, a resident of Indore in MP, said, “I focused on each of the three subjects with additional efforts put in for maths and chemistry.
I followed a regular meditation schedule to stress free.”
Crediting his family (businessman father and home-maker mother) for supporting him emotionally, he said, “My family helped me stay focused throughout the exams. In the last few months, I even stopped using my mobile phone as it was distracting.”
For Shreshtha, also from Indore, preparations for IITs began two years before. “I appeared for numerous mock tests and analyzed each test for better results. During my preparations, I found out that inorganic chemistry was difficult for me, so I studied using excel sheets of tables and flashcards to memorize well,” said Shreshtha who aspires to pursue computer science from IIT Bombay.
Comprising three IITs, IIT Kanpur, IIT Indore and IIT BHU, the IIT-K zone saw Shubham Nair from Chhattisgarh as the second rank holder with AIR 131.
At third place is Garv Chaudha, who got AIR 163. From the IIT-K zone, there is one candidate in the top 100, and only 17, lowest after IITGuwahati (5), in the top 500. The highest of 145 candida tes in the top 500 have come from IIT-Madras zone.
Out of the 21,634 candidates registered from the Kanpur zone, which was coordinated by IIT Kanpur, 21,169 appeared for the examination, and 4,926 have successfully qualified. This marks a significant achievement for the zone, reflecting the high standards of preparation and dedication among the students.

While 17,700 male candidates registered, 17,333 appeared, and 4,338 qualified. Meanwhile, 3,934 female candidates registered, 3,843 appeared, and 590 qualified.
Congratulating the successful candidates, IIT Kanpur director Prof Manindra Agrawal said, “For students coming to IIT Kanpur, our ‘Bright Minds Scholars hips’ will support them ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder your academic journey.”
This scholarship offers ten prestigious and highly sought-after academic scholarships to students who secure admission into BTech/ BS Programs at IIT Kanpur for the academic year 2024. Each eligible student will receive an annual scholarship of Rs 3 lakh, covering their expenses throughout their undergraduate program. The scholarship will be awarded for all four years of the UG program, provided the students maintain a minimum Cumulative
Performance Index (CPI) of 8.0.
The results were declared by IIT Madras, the organizing college for the entrance exam.
