Mangaluru: Legislative assembly speaker UT Khader and minister for health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao will inaugurate new facilities at Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital on Monday. The new facilities include an additional block for expanding the hospital, advanced testing and treatment facilities like PET/CT scan, and gamma knife. The new annex building of the hospital that is being inaugurated, commemorates the silver jubilee of KS Hegde Medical Academy, to which it is attached.
This new block provides advanced intensive care units, operation theatres, and specialised treatment facilities for cardiology, oncology, digestive diseases, neurosurgery, children’s health, childbirth care, and women’s health.
It also provides spacious out-patient rooms and wards. With this, the bed strength of the hospital has increased to 1,200. A highlight of the new additions is a cutting-edge nuclear medicine facility, which includes a PET/CT scan. This provides reliable information about cancers as well as other heart, brain, and endocrine diseases. Nuclear medicine specialists at the hospital can now treat thyroid, prostate, and other diseases with radioactive medicines. The new Silver Jubilee Block will house a robotic surgery unit, which is going to be commissioned soon. The hospital provides comprehensive healthcare and training for the doctors and healthcare workers.
KSHEMA is celebrating its silver jubilee, and with its specialty hospitals and network of 22 rural health centres in over four districts, caters to the healthcare needs of lakhs of people each year. The programme will be presided over by N Vinay Hegde, chancellor, Nitte University, Prof Dr M Shantharam Shetty, pro-chancellor (hospital management), Vishal Hegde, pro-chancellor (administration), and prof MS Moodithaya, VC, NITTE, will be present.
