Mangaluru: Karnataka assembly speaker and MLA of Mangaluru, UT Khader, appealed to political parties not to interfere with the recent untoward incidents reported at Boliyar in his constituency.
“Boliyar is a place known for peace and harmony, but because of a few youths, the place has received a bad name. However, the people of Boliyar have been putting in efforts to bring back its lost glory.
There is no need for outsiders to visit there and try to gain political mileage. Hence, it is better not to interfere, and to keep one’s mouth shut to show patriotism,” the speaker told reporters here on Friday.
No political party will get more votes by politicising the Boliyar issue, he said. “People know which two political parties strove to defeat me in the assembly election. Since I am the speaker of the Karnataka assembly, I will not mention the names of the political parties. Those who are trying to blow the issue out of proportion are anti-nationals,” Khader said.
Stating that everyone has the right to shout ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ anywhere, Khader said, “We do not know what foul language they (BJP workers) used in Boliyar.
Initially, the victory procession (of the BJP) was peaceful, but later three men arrived on a two-wheeler and created unrest. Meanwhile, assaulting them is also an offence. Let the police work independently. They have been proceeding with the investigation based on the video footage of the incidents,’’ he noted.
