Businessman's Rs 1.8 lakh mobile phone stolen at Mumbai domestic airport

MUMBAI: A businessman from Prabhadevi was shocked to discover his Rs 1.8 lakh mobile phone was stolen soon after he arrived at Mumbai Domestic Airport from Bengaluru on June 6. The Airport police station registered a case of theft on Thursday against an unknown individual. Police have requested CCTV footage from inside the airport to identify the thief.

The complainant, AA Rathi, 49, had traveled to Bengaluru with a friend on an official trip on June 1. The incident took place when he returned to Mumbai on an Indigo flight on June 6.
"The team probing the matter have sought information from the airline and also from the airport authorities to track the accused. A case under the Indian Penal Code section 380 (theft) has been registered against an unknown person," said a police officer of the Airport police station.
In his complaint, Rathi stated, "After waiting for 20 minutes, I collected my baggage and reached the arrival gate at around 1.15 pm when I noticed my mobile kept in my track pant missing. I even checked for my mobile at baggage belt no 2 but failed."
On May 22, a lawyer, who practices at the Bombay High Court, filed a complaint with the Sahar police after his mobile phone, valued at Rs79,000, was stolen during a Vistara flight from Singapore to Mumbai. The Sahar police stated that the 48-year-old lawyer had placed his mobile phone in the seat-back pocket before falling asleep. When he woke up, he realized his phone was missing. He informed the onboard crew about the lost phone but could not locate it.
