Girl 'overusing' phone taken to cops talks of rape; dad held

MUMBAI: A man was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting his minor daughter after the matter came to light during a counselling session with the police.
The girl is 17 and lives with her parents. Recently, her father came to the police station to seek help from the police. He said his daughter was glued to social media and her phone all the time and said she no longer listens to her parents and yells back at them.He requested the police to counsel her.
Subsequently, the girl and her mother came to the police station. A woman police officer started to counsel her about the risks of excessive use of social media and internet usage.
The police officer also encouraged the girl to speak up about any issues that she might be facing.
The teenage girl then spoke about a traumatic incident that had occurred with her. She revealed that she had been molested and sexually assaulted by her father over the course of a few days last year.
The police immediately registered an offence under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl's father was taken into custody. The girl was sent for a medical examination.
Police officials said that the girl appeared to be shaken up. Her statement was recorded by a woman police officer.
