MVA alleges bias, walks out of council
Mumbai: MVA MLCs led by Shiv Sena (UBT) opposition leaders Ambadas Danve walked out of the legislative council on Monday alleging that deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe was acting in a partisan and biased way.
All MVA MLCs walked out after Danve claimed he was not being allowed to speak on key issues while BJP MLC Praveen Darekar was being given time to speak.
MVA MLCs had opposed BJP MLCs’ motion to congratulate BCCI treasurer and BJP MLA Ashish Shelar for India’s T20 World Cup win.
Danve said the BJP should congratulate the players and not a BJP MLA who is the treasurer of the BCCI. MVA MLCs said it was nothing but a credit game and sycophancy on the part of the BJP. Gorhe said she had allowed Danve to speak and his allegations were not true.
“The deputy chairperson doesn’t let us speak, the opposition but ruling party MLCs speak anything anytime. They get permission,” Danve said, adding that the bias had crossed all limits and the ruling combine was bringing politics into sport. Chaitanya Marpakwar
