Sharma moves SC challenging HC’s conviction
Mumbai: Former police officer Pradeep Sharma has approached Supreme Court challenging his conviction in the 2006 killing of Ramprasad Gupta alias Lakhan bhaiya. Sentencing Sharma to life term on March 19, Bombay HC held that he and his “illegal squad” of cops had in a “fake encounter” killed Gupta.
In his SC appeal, which may be heard next week, Sharma said the case was circumstantial and HC erred in relying mainly on a ballistic expert report that had discrepancies and ignored evidence of then additional police commissioner Bipin Bihari who had denied formation of a special squad or that he headed one..
