Teenager dies at Mumbai's Juhu beach owing to lightning strike

A 16-year-old died at Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai while Ganpati immersions were ongoing at the beach on Thursday.

MUMBAI: A 16-year-old died at Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai while Ganpati immersions were ongoing at the beach on Thursday.
The teenager was identified as Hasan Yusuf Shaikh.
According to the Mumbai fire brigade, Shaikh was traced near the sea at around 4.15 pm on Thursday and was immediately rushed to civic-run Cooper Hospital by an ambulance at the site.

While initially it was presumed that Shaikh died owing to drowning later, it was found that it was a lightning strike which led to his death.
Thursday evening witnessed intense thunder activity followed by rains across many parts of Mumbai.
