Patna: With some parts of the state witnessing light to moderate
rainfall on Tuesday, the mercury has fallen a few notches bringing relief from heatwave and hot days.
Majority of the districts recorded below normal maximum temperatures in the day.
“Neither heatwave was recorded at any place nor did any district touch the 40 degree Celsius mark on Tuesday,” said an official of Patna Meteorolgocial office, adding, similar weather conditions could be expected for the next three days, after which there would be slight increase in temperature in the following 24 hours.
Many places in the state received light to moderate rainfall, with Purnia recording a maximum 85 mm of
rain on Tuesday. Other places that witnessed rain spell included Jamui, Nalanda, Buxar, Jehanabad, Madhepura and Patna.
Patna Met office has issued orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds at 40-50 km per hour for northern and southern districts of the state respectively on Wednesday.
“Monsoon reached the southern part of Andaman and Nicobar islands on Monday and it is expected to reach Kerala on time,” said weather scientist at IMD (Patna) S K Patel. He added that light to moderate rainfall in some parts and moderate to heavy rainfall at one or two places in north-eastern parts of the state was predicted.
“Because of the shower forecast in the region, temperature will remain moderate, but there will be no relief from humid and sultry conditions,” said Patel.
Maximum highest temperature of 39.2 °C was recorded at Dehri (Rohtas) and minimum lowest of 20.8 °C at Buxur. Patna’s highest and lowest temperatures were 35.7°C and 26.8°C respectively on Tuesday.
