Supaul jeweller shot dead in sleep
Patna: A 28-year-old jeweller was shot dead in sleep at his residence in Daulatpur village of Raghopur police station area in Supaul district in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
Birpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Surendra Kumar said Sintu Soni was killed around 2am, when the family was asleep. “Some unidentified assailant pumped a bullet in the victim’s head from an open window of his room and escaped.
Hearing the shot, the family members rushed to his room to find him bleeding profusely. They took him to the local referral hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The police later took the body in its custody and sent it to the sadar hospital for postmortem,” he said, adding they are investigating the case from all angles.
“The motive behind the murder is not clear. A team of forensic experts collected evidences and blood samples from the spot. The dog squad team was also called,” the SDPO told TOI.
The jeweller's second wife Jyoti Kumari told police that he looked tense on Monday night. “He did not even take his dinner, after which she slept, only to wake up hearing the gun shot. She saw blood coming out of her husband’s head and informed the police. But he died on way to Raghopur Referral Hospital,” said police as stated by the woman.
According to the local residents, Soni’s first marriage was with a woman from Balbhadrapur of Birpur. But they got separated after a year, following which, Soni married Jyoti, who hailed from Ekdara village in Madhubani district.
