Police quiz middleman on source of Rs3 lakh given to swap blood sample

PUNE: The city crime branch personnel are questioning Ashpaque Makandar, a liaison person, to find out the source of Rs3 lakh he handed to a grade IV staffer of Sassoon General Hospital to swap the blood sample of the minor Porsche car driver with his mother’s.
Police said Dhanori resident Makandar functioned as a middleman between the minor driver’s father and the hospital staffers.He and his close associate Amar Santosh Gaikwad (27), a resident of Yerawada, were arrested on Tuesday in the Porsche crash case in which charges of forgery and destruction of evidence had been invoked. Makndkar also worked for a politician as a liaison person.

A senior police officer of the crime branch said, “Earlier, we thought that the cash was given to the grade IV staffer, Atul Ghatkamble, on the premises of the Sassoon General Hospital because men in a car were seen talking to him on the hospital premises. Now, it is revealed that the cash was delivered to him at the Govt Observation Home for Boys in Yerawada on May 19. We recovered its CCTV footage.”
Builder’s accomplice held
The Kondhwa police on Saturday arrested the accomplice of the minor Porsche car driver’s father and grandfather in an alleged case of duping a real estate agent of Rs1.32 crore.
