Two-year-old dies in mother’s arms
Rajkot: In a tragic incident, a two-year-old girl died in the arms of her mother who consumed some liquid that was reportedly toxic, in their house on Mavdi-Kankot Road on the city’s outskirts.
While the girl Jiya succumbed in a hospital, her mother Namrata Jasani (29) is under treatment. She told the the Rajkot Taluka police that he was fed up with life but her detailed statement is yet to be recorded.

The woman consumed a liquid, probably the one used for cleaning washrooms on Friday noon and went to sleep taking her daughter in her arms. The duo’s health began deteriorating and the toddler became unresponsive. After drinking the liquid, Namrata called up her husband Kevin, who runs a factory in the Shapar-Veraval area of the city, asking him to rush home.
When Kevin reached the house, he saw Namrata in a semi-conscious condition and the girl lying unconscious. He took both to the hospital where doctors declared the girl dead.
D M Haripara, police inspector of Rajkot Taluka police station said, “The cause of the young girl’s death is not immediately clear. We have taken viscera for test. We will register an offence against her mother if we get evidence that she killed her.” This was Namrata’s second marriage and Jiya was the daughter from her first husband.
