Five-year-old missing after falling into natural drain

Surat: A five-year-old girl has gone missing after falling into a drainage ditch during rain in Bilimora town of Navsari district on Friday afternoon.
When the family could not find her for a couple of hours, the girl Shaheen's father Mohammad Ajit Shaikh, and mother Ruksar contacted the police. On checking CCTVs, she was found going into the drain
They also checked the CCTV footage in the nearby area and saw a bucket falling into the open drainage and the girl going behind to remove it.In the the flow of water, she went missing in the drainage ditch which meets Ambika River just 100 m away.
When contacted, Bilimora chief officer Mittal Bhalala told TOI: “The place of incident is a natural drainage which meets the Ambika River. It collects the rainwater. However, locals have encroached and narrowed it by covering it in many places. After the incident, our teams tried to find the girl but could not trace her. We will start the search operations from Saturday morning.”
