Trio held with Ganja worth Rs 14 lakh

THANE: The Anti Narcotics cell of Thane Crime branch arrested three persons and seized 47 kgs of Ganja worth Rs 14 lakh.
The arrested individuals are identified as Manish Verma (30), a resident of Sabe Gaon; Ashwin Singh alias Bande, a resident of Padwal Nagar; and Ranjit Swain (34) from Baigunapada, Orissa.
Senior inspector, Sanjay Shinde informed that based on an information that some persons were to come near Railadevi lake in Wagle estate area, the police team laid a trap at the specified spot on Tuesday and spotted the accused.
The police carried out the search and found several plastic bags in which nearly 47 kgs of Ganja was stashed and in several plastic bundles. “This Ganja is worth Rs 14 lakh in the market and sold according to the needs of the customers in several fragments,” said a police officer.
The police are now trying to find out as to from where the banned goods was sourced and to whom they were to be sold. “It is suspected that they were to supply the contraband to someone based in and around the city and have it big racket. Further probe is underway in this regard and the other accounts will be caught soon,” the officer informed.
An offence under the provisions of the NDPS act has been registered with the Wagle estate police station. The arrested were produced before the local magistrate who remanded them into police custody for the further probe
