Minister inspects site for new bus terminus in Lalgudi
TRICHY: Lalgudi municipality has identified land for construction of a new bus terminus in the town. Municipal administration minister K N Nehru inspected the proposed site on Friday.
Lalgudi municipality officials were told to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to allocate funds.
Since the present bus stand is over 50 years old and is less than an acre in size, traffic congestion recurs in Lalgudi town which was recently upgraded as a second grade municipality.
The existing bus stand in Lalgudi town is cramped.
The local body said that a land parcel measuring 5.5 acre was identified on the Poovalur Road. The site is situated at about 1.7km from the existing municipality office.
Of the total 5.5 acre of land, four acre has been earmarked for the new bus stand. The remaining 1.5 acre will be utilised to construct a new municipality office.
“A new bus terminus is essential to decongest the town. Since the site identified for the bus stand is within the town, the new bus stand will attract investments in the peripheral areas,”, municipal commissioner V Kumar said.
The local body will develop a commercial complex as part of the new bus stand.
The municipal administration minister along with Trichy district collector M Pradeep Kumar inspected the Lalgudi taluk office where new office spaces for tahsildar and sub-registrar are proposed.
