Trichy Corporation seizes 15 stray cattle at night
TRICHY: In a synchronised enforcement to curtail stray cattle menace in the city, the Trichy Corporation resumed night operations and confiscated 15 stray cattle in an operation that started at 10pm on Wednesday and lasted at 2am on Thursday.
A team of 16 workers were deployed through a private agency to catch the stray cattle.
Officials said two specialised vehicles equipped with hydraulic lifts were used in transporting the cattle to corporation’s shelter at Konakkarai.

Densely populated residential areas and narrow roads such as Kumaran Nagar and Srinivasa Nagar on the Vayalur road, Uyyakondan Thirumalai and Woraiyur localities in zone V were covered in the drive.
In some areas on the Vayalur Road, livestock owners upon hearing about the impoundment drive resisted and confronted the workers. However, through the intervention of city police, the stray cattle were seized.
“Police support has been sought throughout the drive to prevent cattle owners from threatening and hindering the workers impounding the animals caught on roads,” an official source said.
Owners of the seized cattle were asked to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000 per large animal and Rs 2,500 per calf within the next 10 days. If the owners fail to pay the penalties and retrieve their animals, the impounded cattle shall be auctioned by the urban local body.
