VIJAYAWADA: Another incident of a village volunteer siphoning off money from beneficiary's account was reported in state, this time in Chittoor's Kuppam mandal.
The village volunteer, identified as Suresh Babu, lured a woman beneficiary named Prameela, took her fingerprints and has been transferring the Amma Vodi amount to his bank account for the last two years.
Prameela and her husband Ramakrishna from Chandam village have three children. Prameela received Amma Vodi benefits for two years. The amount was deposited in her Saptagiri Grameena Bank account. But she did not receive the benefits in 2022 and 2023.
When she enquired with Suresh, he told her that the amount was deposited in her Indian Bank account. Later, he took her fingerprints and transferred the amount to his bank accounts, Prameela alleged. The victim's family is about to lodge a complaint with Kuppam police.
