E! News backstage interviews at the Golden Globes 2023 got some interesting insights about the working relationship between upcoming stars Jay Ellis and Glen Powell and their association with the veteran star during the filming and promotions of Top Gun: Maverick.

Jay Ellis revealed, “It was everything you could ever imagine, I mean, he’s a mentor, he’s a friend. He’s actually got an amazing sense of humour, I think most people wouldn’t expect that. It was great. I mean…”
Glen Powell added, “Doesn’t get any better Tom. He’s as cool as it gets.Yeah”
The interviewer continued asking questions about the preparations that the actors underwent for the iconic beach football scene in the movie, as well as for flying the F-18 fighter planes. Glen explained, "We're flying all these crazy manoeuvres with him every single day," he recalled. "It was just this crazy experience." Jay added, "It was just so much information, "but it was also so well thought out and planned where it never felt like you were just getting hit with a ton of stuff. It was just these little incremental steps that you were taking, and then all of a sudden, we were all like, ‘Yeah, we pilots.'"
The cast also swam with the coach of the US Open Water swim team, learned how to swim and escape from challenging situations while submerged underwater and attended culture trips to learn about the everyday lives of pilots.
