Slap controversy: Shabana Azmi defends Kangana Ranaut amidst Bollywood's silence; expresses concern over security personnel 'taking law into their hands'
Veteran Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi has come forward to defend Kangana Ranaut amidst the ongoing slap controversy. In a tweet on her handle, the actress came out in support of the new BJP MP and expressed her concerns about security personnel taking the law into their hands.
In a tweet, Azmi stated, "I have no love lost for #Kangana Ranaut. But I can't find myself joining this chorus of celebrating 'the slap'.
If security personnel start taking law into their hands, none of us can be safe."
Hours before Azmi's statement, Kangana took to Instagram to express her disappointment with the Bollywood community for not speaking up about the incident. Without naming anyone, she posted, "All eye on Rafah Gang this can happen to you or your children as well... When you celebrate a terror attack on someone, be ready for the day it comes back to you as well."

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal weighed in on the controversy, criticizing Ranaut's behaviour and urged her to recognize her responsibility as a public figure. Badal condemned Ranaut for labelling people as 'terrorists' instead of taking accountability for her own comments.

"Kangana Ranaut should understand her responsibility instead of trying to please her High Command. Being an actress, she is followed by many people. When you say stupid things and make useless comments, then there is a reaction. If someone says such words to your mother that you have said to other people's mothers, you too won't like it," Badal remarked.

"Instead of looking at your mistake, you are calling them terrorists. Your party's policy is to spread poison. Instead of spreading poison, if you spread sweetness, you won't have to face such a situation," she added.
A huge controversy erupted when Ranaut alleged that she was slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at Chandigarh airport. The constable, Kulwinder Kaur, has since been suspended, and an FIR has been lodged against her.

In a latest update on ANI, the CISF filed an FIR against the female constable, under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 321 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint).
"The constable has not been arrested yet as it is a bailable offence," police officials said in a statement.
The altercation allegedly erupted over Kangana's comments against the farmer's protests. The actress shared in a video message, "When I asked her why she did this, she told me that she supported the farmers' protest."

In a video statement circulating on social media, Kaur, explained, "She [Kangana] stated that the farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made this statement."
The incident has sparked a broader discussion on social media with some weighing in on the constable's actions while others have been extending their support to Kangana.
