Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu 2 will have scenes based on true incidents
Age is just a number for Selvashekaran, who, after more than two decades in the film industry, has finally directed his debut film, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu 2, which is a sequel to the 2009 sports drama Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu. The filmmaker is a relative of Suseenthiran, who directed the first film.
“It is a proper sequel that takes forward the story of the kabaddi team from the first film,” begins Selvashekaran.
The sequel will have a new protagonist, played by Vikranth, as the first film’s protagonist (Vishnu Vishal) dies in it. “The sequel will show how Vikranth’s character becomes part of the team and their journey after that,” says the director.
While Kishore is reprising his role as the team’s coach, the new film will also have another acting heavyweight in its cast — Pasupathy. “He plays Vikranth’s father, and the father-son relationship angle will play a key role in the plot,” informs the director.
Arthana Binu of Kadaikutty Singam fame plays the female lead in the movie. Interestingly, the director himself is a kabaddi player. “Many of the events in the film are based on true incidents that have happened to me on the field,” he adds.
Selvaganesh, who composed the music for the first film, returns as the music director for this movie, too. “There are four songs and each one has been sung by a popular singer. Anirudh has sung a thiruvizha song, a folk number. Karthik and Shwetha Mohan have sung a duet while Haricharan has sung another song. Shankar Mahadevan has sung a rousing kabaddi song,” the director lists out. The teaser of the film was released by director AR Murugadoss on Saturday.
