Patiala election results 2024 live updates: INC's Dr. Dharmvir Gandhi wins

NEW DELHI: Congress' Dharamvira Gandhi is leading in the Patiala constituency with a margin of 7012 votes at 12pm.
The Patiala constituency went to the polls in the 7th phase of elections on June 1, 2024. Key candidates in this election include Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi from the Indian National Congress (INC), Preneet Kaur representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dr.Balbir Singh from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and N K Sharma of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Patiala is one of the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab, covering the entirety of Patiala district and comprising eight assembly constituencies. According to the 2011 census, Patiala has a population of around 19 lakh and a literacy rate of 67.63%. The election is particularly significant given the diverse demographics and political history of Patiala.

In the 2019 General Elections, Preneet Kaur, then an INC candidate, achieved a decisive victory with a margin of 162,718 votes, totaling 532,027 votes. Her nearest competitor, Surjit Singh Rakhra from the SAD, received 369,309 votes. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 67.79% in 2019, reflecting strong electoral engagement.
Previously, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Patiala constituency saw a win for Dharamvir Gandhi from the AAP. However, Gandhi's expulsion from the AAP in 2016, along with Harinder Singh Khalsa, due to a rebellion against the party, shifted the political dynamics within the region.
Patiala remains a crucial constituency in Punjab, with its diverse electorate and significant historical and political weight.
