Paris Olympics: Ceremonial dress for the Indian contingent gets a tricolour touch
On Sunday, the Indian Olympic Association hosted the sendoff ceremony for the Indian contingent heading to the Paris Olympics 2024. During the event, the ceremonial dress for the opening ceremony, designed by Tarun Tahiliani's ready-to-wear menswear label, Tasva, and the playing kit were unveiled. Tarun says, “It feels amazing to have made some contribution to something that is a matter of Indian pride.
I did the research and said that the colours must come from the Indian flag. This year, the athletes are coming on barges down the Seine River. So, each country has its own barge. Imagine the whole thing with the big Indian flag and it will all look so beautiful. We have used ikat print and brocade from Banaras. This is India in different forms. The most important thing for me was to use the colours of the Indian flag. The Olympic committee’s flag has also been incorporated.”

“I told them that the bundi is India, it can be 40 degrees over there so let’s put them in something cool so that they are not sweating. It is all natural fabrics... I wanted a sporty look so it didn’t look too formal,” says Tarun.
He adds, "I’m not a sporty person but it’s amazing to contribute to something that is a matter of Indian pride."
