"We initially thought that it was a cloudburst or earthquake,” says singer Salman Khan Niazi, of the duo Salman-Zaman, who were present at Delhi Airport’s T1 on Friday morning when the terminal’s roof collapsed, killing one person and injuring several others.
“We had a show in Kolkata so we reached the airport around 5 am and our flight was supposed to take off at 7am.
We are a team of 11 people, nine of us had already reached the airport. The remaining two members, who were at the entry gate, told us that suddenly airport hilne laga. They saw that the roof had collapsed at the departure gate, crushing a few cabs,” Salman tells us. He adds that after this, the airport operations were suspended and no one was allowed to enter or exit.

“There was utter chaos at the airport. But after waiting for three hours, our flight took off at 10am from the same terminal. We are guessing that this happened because our security was done and we were at the boarding gate,” says Salman, adding that they had to buy new tickets for one team member and the other one could not attend the show.
