NEW DELHI: Jaismine Lamboria, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, edged closer to securing a spot at the Paris Olympics after a commanding victory over Ana Marija Milisic of Switzerland in the 57kg category at the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier. Lamboria, who transitioned from 60kg, dominated Milisic with a unanimous decision (5-0) in the round of 16.
The World Olympic Boxing Qualifier offers four quota places in the women's 57kg weight class.Lamboria will need to win her quarterfinal against Mali's Marine Camara on Sunday to secure her passage to the Paris Games and reclaim the 57kg quota for India.

Parveen Hooda had initially secured the 57kg quota at the 2023 Asian Games but was suspended for a whereabouts failure last month, leading to India surrendering the quota.
Jaismine, having previously competed in the Asian Games and the initial World qualifiers in the 60kg category, was allowed to participate in the 57kg event as a reserve for the tournament.
The bout started cautiously, with both fighters sizing each other up. Jaismine then showcased her technical skills, landing repeated jabs on Milisic.
Despite Milisic's efforts to counter, Jaismine effectively utilized her long reach to control the distance and pace of the bout.

Jaismine's combination punches overwhelmed Milisic, resulting in a standing count. It became clear which way the decision was leaning.
In the men's competition, Sachin suffered defeat in the semifinals but will have an opportunity to compete in the box-off.
