NEW DELHI: Following Pakistan's surprising exit from the group stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup, several players landed in Lahore on Wednesday.
The Pakistan news channel Geo News reported that the players and officials touched down at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport via a private airline flight in the early hours of Wednesday.
As per the ANI report, among the returning players were Naseem Shah, Usman Khan, and senior manager Wahab Riaz.
Some members of the 15-player squad chose to extend their stay in the United States after Pakistan's unexpected tournament exit.
Captain Babar Azam, along with Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan, are set to return to Pakistan on June 22. Mohammad Amir opted to stay behind with some players but will soon be traveling to England to join Derbyshire in the County Championship.
Geo News further stated that Pakistan's white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, will head home after the team failed to make it to the Super 8 stage.
Pakistan concluded their campaign with a three-wicket win over Ireland in Florida on Sunday. However, this was a dead rubber match as India and the USA from Group A had already advanced to the Super 8 stage.
In light of Pakistan's early exit, doubts have been cast over Babar Azam's future as the white-ball captain.
In a press conference last Sunday, Babar spoke about his future and assured that he would be transparent about any decision to step down.
