AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey honoured with a postal stamp

Former goalkeeper and current All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey on Thursday was honoured by the Indian postal department with a commemorative postal stamp in recognition of his contribution to the game’s development in the country. India Post released the stamp at an event in the city. The Rs. 5 stamp contains the image of Chaubey along with the Red Fort.

KOLKATA: Former goalkeeper and current All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey on Thursday was honoured by the Indian postal department with a commemorative postal stamp in recognition of his contribution to the game’s development in the country.
India Post released the stamp at an event in the city. The Rs. 5 stamp contains the image of Chaubey along with the Red Fort.
“I’m truly humbled with the gesture shown by the Indian post department.This honour strengthens my belief in the work we have done in developing Indian football, and will further encourage me to keep working for the betterment of the sports in the country,” Chaubey said.
The state unit of India Post had earlier issued similar commemorative postal stamps in honour of legendary footballers Chuni Goswami, Ghosto Paul Talimeren Ao as well as former Indian women’s cricketer Jhulan Goswami among others.
Having graduated from Tata Football Academy, he joined Mohun Bagan in the 1996-1997 season. Thereafter he went on to don the jerseys of leading Indian clubs of the time, including East Bengal, Salgaocar SC, Mahindra United and JCT.
He played for the country in the age-group tournaments and had been a member of India’s SAFF Championship-winning squad, he also represented Bengal, Goa and Punjab in the Santosh Trophy.
On Sept. 2 in 2022, Chaubey was elected as the All India Football Federation president after beating former India captain and renowned striker Bhaichung Bhutia in the elections. He thus became the first player to head the federation in its history.
