NEW DELHI: Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal has secured his berth in the men's singles event at the forthcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, signifying his second foray into the esteemed competition. Nagal, who previously participated at the Tokyo Games, where he advanced to the second round.
"Extremely glad to share that I have officially qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This is a monumental moment for me as the Olympics holds a special place in my heart!," Nagal posted on X.
"One of my career highlights so far was participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Ever since then, Paris has been a big goal for me. Can't wait to put my best foot forward," Nagal added.

AccoriThe All India Tennis Association (AITA) corroborated Nagal's qualification, elucidating that he was designated as an alternate by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) until June 10, when the rankings for qualification were conclusively determined.
Complementing Nagal's participation in the singles event, India's representation in the men's doubles at Paris will encompass the formidable duo of
Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji. Bopanna, an elite top-10 player, handpicked Balaji as his partner, a decision that was later approved by AITA.
Nagal's qualification was substantially propelled by his recent triumphant conquest at the Heilbronn Challenger earlier this month, catapulting him into the upper echelons of the ATP singles rankings, firmly entrenched within the top 80. Throughout this season, Nagal has clinched two Challenger titles - the Heilbronn Challenger and the Chennai Challenger.
The 26-year-old has embarked on a scintillating commencement to the 2024 season, navigating through the qualifying rounds to secure his spot in the main draw of the Australian Open and subsequently advancing to the second round following a stunning upset victory over the then-world number 37, Alexander Bublik.
Additionally, he triumphed in the qualifying rounds to earn his place in the main draws of the Indian Wells Masters and the Monte-Carlo Masters, both esteemed ATP 1000 tournaments.
