If reports are to go by, the eagerly awaited monsoon is predicted to arrive in the national capital territory of Delhi this weekend. The onset of the monsoon is expected to bring much-needed respite from the scorching heat and dry conditions that have plagued the region in recent months.

This announcement comes after Delhi endured almost drought-like conditions in the pre-monsoon months of March, April, and May. As per reports, rainfall during these months was significantly below normal

Also, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD) report, conditions are becoming conducive for the Southwest Monsoon to advance further into the remaining parts of West, Central, and East India, as well as certain areas of Northwest India, over the next three to four days. This progression is likely to include additional regions of the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and southeastern Rajasthan.

Moreover, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected along parts of the West Coast and over Northeast India during the next four to five days. This widespread monsoonal activity signals a significant shift in weather patterns across the country, bringing hope for improved agricultural conditions and replenished water supplies.

However, the heat wave is not all gone, not just yet. Amidst the promising monsoon forecasts, the IMD has issued warnings of potential heat wave conditions. Isolated pockets of the Jammu division may experience these extreme temperatures on June 26-27, also several regions in Punjab and West Rajasthan. Maximum temperatures across Northwest and Central India are predicted to remain relatively stable over the next two days before there’s a decline of 2-4°C in the next few days.

As residents of Delhi brace for the impending monsoon, authorities are urged to prepare for potential urban flooding and waterlogging, common issues associated with heavy rains in metropolitan areas. Effective drainage systems and timely public advisories will be essential to mitigate the impact of these weather changes.
