I am a small businesswoman, housing advocate and Millbrae City Councilwoman. I have spent my whole life in this community. I was born and raised on the Peninsula, and my three children were born and raised here too.

On the council, I have championed smart development including residential apartments that provide access to affordable housing, housing for veterans and mixed-use spaces that help power our local economy. As a Councilmember, I have served on several regional committees including the Peninsula Congestion Relief Alliance Board.

In San Bruno, I created a first-time homebuyers alliance and have helped more than 700 people become homeowners for the first time. I've also been part of important organizations like RSVP, a program that helps seniors maintain their homes.

I'm running to unite the community around common-sense solutions to our greatest challenges - housing, homelessness and traffic gridlock.

  • I will fight to declare a State of Emergency on homelessness so we can coordinate action, address untreated mental health conditions, create safe shelters and require those shelters be used.
  • I will fight for housing solutions that leverage emerging technologies, public-private partnerships and convene state and local leaders to get the job done while keeping key decision-making local. Any new housing must be well-built and near transit to reduce our traffic gridlock.
  • I will ensure we seriously invest in and expand reliable public transportation, like the CalTrain electrification, and build housing near transit and job centers so people can work in the same communities where they live.

Housing:
We need to build more housing by incentivizing local communities and holding them accountable. As your next state senator, I will fight for short and long-term housing solutions that leverage emerging technologies, public-private partnerships, and keep key decision making local.

Homelessness & Addiction:
As we work to put more families into homes, we must also help our homeless neighbors off the streets and into shelters, treatment facilities, and stable housing. We need to rebuild our system of care and support that once helped sick people suffering from addiction or mental health issues to get well - and get off of our streets into stable environments.

Traffic & Transportation:
I've had enough of the political infighting getting in the way of needed serious investment in the transit infrastructure. We need to stop building trains to nowhere and start building quiet, safe, electric trains that run every few minutes up and down this Peninsula - trains that are connected at every stop to frequent buses - so we can get thousands of cars off our streets and clear traffic gridlock.

Environmental Sustainability:
Our homes, infrastructure, and natural environment are at risk of being wiped out as important natural barriers such as coastal marshes - which filtrate our water, provide flood protection, and are home to diverse wildlife - are lost to rising seas. I will stand up for us and help ensure California continues to lead the effort to combat climate change.

It's time to break through the partisan gridlock and bring common sense to Sacramento, so I believe it is important for elected officials to be the voice for their constituents, not their party.

In addition, I believe elected officials must stand up to the special interests who control our state government so we can make real progress on the issues that matter.

I am a housing advocate who has fought to keep seniors and veterans in their homes. I am a local city council member who worked successfully to put housing near transit.

I know people work so hard to earn a living - and as a businesswoman and resident, I will demand Sacramento work harder to spend our tax dollars better starting with mandatory audits of every dollar spent.

And I am the mother of a son who slipped into addiction and was temporarily homeless before our family could intervene - so I will approach the homeless crisis from a point of compassion, determination and the "tough love" that requires those most in need to seek treatment.

My very first job was on a paper route when I was 14 years old for two years.

One of the most impactful and tough experiences in my life was the night my husband Jose and I received a call that we will never forget. We learned that our son, who suffers from addiction and mental health issues, was living on the street. We are blessed that he is fine now and doing much better. But my family's story is all too typical.

I refuse to accept the status quo on homelessness. We cannot continue to let people live and die on our streets, and that's one of the reasons why I am running to be your State Senator.

I believe our state's greatest challenges over the next decade will be addressing our homelessness crisis, housing crisis, transportation needs and meeting our goals to combat climate change. I'm running for state senate to bring common-sense solutions to these issues.

Yes, I believe relationships are important - and not just for legislators. I've always found that the key to resolving any conflict starts with convening all of the stakeholders and listening. I like to hear all sides of an issue before coming to a decision, so I can weigh each side's needs and concerns and see if there's a compromise to be found. That's the approach I've taken as a successful small business owner, and it's how I was able to advocate for common-sense solutions as a Millbrae City Councilmember.
