2012: Lawsuit by former student

A former Hollenstein Career and Technology Center student filed suit against former teacher Rachelle Heenan and the district regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship that took place in 2012. The former student, referred to as Mark Smith in the lawsuit, claimed he was harmed physically and emotionally by Heenan during an intimate relationship that lasted through the spring of 2012. The lawsuit alleged that district officials failed to provide adequate supervision of Heenan. Heenan was placed on leave in May 2012 and later received five years of probation for a similar incident with another student that took place in February 2013. Smith's attorney also asked for $24,000 to repay the district for damage to school property, citing the student's fragile emotional state during the relationship.[8]
