Lupita Hinojosa is the superintendent of the Spring Independent School District. Hinojosa was appointed superintendent in January 2022. Hinojosa's previous career experience includes working in the district as the Chief Schools Officer and Chief of Innovation and Equity.[1]

Past superintendents

  • Rodney Watson was the superintendent of the Spring Independent School District from July 2014 until 2022. Watson's previous career experience includes working as the chief human resources officer of the Houston Independent School District.[2]
  • Ralph Draper was the superintendent of the Spring Independent School District from 2005 to 2014.[3]

The Spring Independent School District board of trustees consists of seven members elected to three-year terms. All board members are elected at large by position.[4]

Noteworthy events

2013: Safety concerns

On September 3, 2013, Spring ISD student Joshua Broussard was fatally stabbed and three others were injured at Spring High School. The incident called into question the district's safety precautions and the possible installation of metal detectors at all elementary, middle, and high schools in the district. Voters previously passed a bond in 2011 that would have funded the purchase of metal detectors in Spring ISD, but the machines were never purchased or installed in schools. Protests were held by community members and parents in support of installing metal detectors at the districts' schools.[8][9]
