Academic performance

Each year, state and local education agencies use tests and other standards to assess student proficiency. As a result, proficiency levels are not comparable between different states and year-over-year proficiency levels within a district may not be comparable because states may change their proficiency measurements.[7]

Noteworthy events

2013: Safety concerns

On September 3, 2013, Spring ISD student Joshua Broussard was fatally stabbed and three others were injured at Spring High School. The incident called into question the district's safety precautions and the possible installation of metal detectors at all elementary, middle, and high schools in the district. Voters previously passed a bond in 2011 that would have funded the purchase of metal detectors in Spring ISD, but the machines were never purchased or installed in schools. Protests were held by community members and parents in support of installing metal detectors at the districts' schools.[8][9]
