Jason Stein is the capitol reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (MJS). Stein is co-author, with Patrick Marley (also of MJS), of the book More than They Bargained for: Scott Walker, Unions, and the Fight for Wisconsin.[1]

Stein is known for his coverage, along with Dan Bice and Marley, of the John Doe investigations involving Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

Jason Stein began reporting for the Wisconsin State Journal in 2003. At the time, he worked as the journal's state capitol reporter. He remained with the journal until 2010, when he started working for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He was the capitol reporter for the Sentinel, reporting for the political desk.[2]

Stein is the former president of the Wisconsin Capitol Correspondents Association.[1] He co-wrote with his colleague, Patrick Marley, the book More than They Bargained for: Scott Walker, Unions, and the Fight for Wisconsin, which chronicles Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's 2011 repeal of collective bargaining rights for public employees.[1]

Two John Doe investigations, beginning in 2010 and ending in 2015, were launched by Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm (D) into the activities of staff and associates of Gov.
