Mi-Wuk/Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Benefit Assessment Vote (June 2010)
A Mi-Wuk/Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Benefit Assessment Vote took place on the June 8, 2010 ballot for people who own property in the Mi-Wuk/Sugar Pine Fire Protection District in Tuolumne County. To vote in the election, a voter did not need to be registered to vote in the area served by the fire protection district, but did need to own property in the district.[1]
The vote was a "benefits assessment" vote rather than a parcel tax vote and as a result, it only required a simple majority to pass.
The question before voters was whether to approve a "benefits assessment" amounting to about $170/year for each single-family residence in the fire protection district. This was a $90/year increase over current levels of assessment.
At the time of the election, the fire district had two tax assessments in place that brought in about $115,580 per year and cost taxpayers about $80/residence annually. These two taxes were set to expire in June 2010.
